Your Path on Purpose

Most of us came to changemaking with strong feelings about how to build the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

Maybe we experienced injustice, were affected by a humanitarian emergency or felt deeply the structural violence of systems built on assumptions of inequality and lack.

As old systems fall apart and worldviews that used to make sense of our human experience erode by the day, it can be hard to orient.

How do you find your bearings in a world in transition? Now more than ever, leaders require a foundation of self-care, self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

We need to trust our leaders – not that they have the answers, but that they have the humility and wisdom to admit that they don't.

As hierarchies break down, each of us are challenged to be leaders in our own way.

We all carry a precious, emergent piece of our shared future that we want to create. We're in this together.

Sensing what our piece is, even if it's not ready to be put it into words just yet, is a milestone on the journey.

Tapping into what we care about enough to transform our world until it mirrors the inner image we carry is crucial work. How do we get there?

We focus on our own self-care.

This is the most universal starting point and the path most likely to soothe the suffering of you and others.

When I say "self-care," I mean beliefs and actions that are compassionate and kind.

Each of us can create a personalized wellness system that empowers us to thrive and to be healthy and happy while doing the work that really matters.

Each day, we make thousands of choices that either bring us closer to happiness and health or move us further away. The choice is always and only ours.

We must learn to allow ourselves to rest and restore ourselves, not just when times are hard, but frequently. To do so allows us to be present and prepared for the future.

We must learn to set good boundaries around our work and other people, places and things, boundaries that keep us feeling nurtured and protected.

Now more than ever, leaders require a foundation of self-care, self-awareness and emotional intelligence.

Learning to voice our needs with confidence is crucial for changemakers.

We're often people-pleasers in the extreme and somewhere in our programming, decided that others' needs are more important than our own.

Re-orienting ourselves around self-care and our right to be healthy and happy allows us to claim our power that much more deeply.

As embodied leaders, people feel our strength and open hearts. They are able to trust us more deeply, not for the authority we claim but for the achievement of being present on purpose.

The work we're doing in the world starts with a foundation of self-care that empowers us to create our visions with joy.
